One day. One change.

Todays health hint.

Fibre is a huge part of how your body detoxifies. It literally cleans you out and takes a lot of toxins along with it on its travels through your digestive tract.
Besides the large amount found in fruits and vegetables and in the usual bran (soya bran is a nice wheat bran alternative) you can also get a great daily helping with psylllium husks (health stores). Just a pinch of the powder over your porridge and add some some extra water, leave to soak for about 3 minutes and your sorted. Amount can be increased or decreased to suit how much fibre you think you'll need daily (a teaspoon is the max amount recommended and an extra glass of water is needed if increasing above the recommended pinch) A pinch is a quarter to an eight of a teaspoon. Don't forget to drink extra water to accomodate the extra fibre.

Todays health update.

For those of you who feel bloated or sluggish after eating bread or pasta made with wheat. A great nutritious and tasty alternative is Buckwheat, It is wheat free and gluten free but has a real wholemeal taste, It is really high in magnesium too and releases energy slowly so you have energy for longer. Health stores sell it as an alternative to pasta, cereals, noodles and it comes in really tasty salt and sugar free crackers. Try the crackers in the evening to help you relax (magnesium helps muscles relax) and feel the difference in how your digestion feels too. L

To help your liver to detoxify a little more every day try increasing the amount of Cruciferous vegetables you eat. These contain a specific bi-product called Indole-3-Carbinol. This is the subject of on-going positive biomedical research  into its possible anti-carcinogenic,antioxidant, and liver cleansing effects. Indole-3-carbinol occurs naturally in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, collard greens and kale, bok choy and spinach.

Todays small change is.....

This one is easy but a little more pricey than the alternatives. Since it is never a good idea to heat olive oil (shock) as it has a conversion temperature of about 180 degrees I suggest using avocado oil which has a higher conversion temperature of around 220 degrees. This means it wont become a bad fat until that temperature. You can cook almost anything at less than 220 especially if you cover it. I love my free range egg slowly fried in avacado oil  every other morning. So only use oilve oil on cooled or cold meals or salads and use avocado oil to cook with at medium temperature for longer.

Today's small change

This is for those of you who have porridge in the morning and for those of you who don't but might give it a try if it tasted better. Well this little hint will make it taste nice and make it even healthier. Add a half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon (healthstore, supermarket, Market). Cinnamon is great for balancing the all important sugar levels so assists in stopping the sugar highs and lows which have you reaching for the sugary snacks. Tune in for tomorrows exciting instalment. L

One day. one change

Ok so here's the plan.
I'm going to suggest dietary changes daily for the next month that will help increase your nutrient intake and give you more energy.
These are going to be simple little changes like todays one.
If having rice try brown Basmati. (health stores).
Why. Lots more B vitamins and much slower, sustained energy release.
By the end of this month your cupboards should be filled with different kinds of good, filling stuff that you've gotton used to slowly but surely.
The junk replacements are coming soon so stay tuned.
